The Phonoautobothy

Meet the Phonoautobothy! The Phonoautobothy is a fully solar powered mobile recording studio, live stage, event space, and in fact has so many potential uses we haven’t thought of them all yet! The Bothy is the result of a collaborative project between The University of Glasgow, Idlefield Art Lab (a wonderful creative collective from Canada), and Beatroute Arts where it lives when its not out on the road, visiting festivals and events.  Built using upcycled materials, the Phonoautobothy aims to showcase sustainable power generation for live and recorded music while engaging local communities around Glasgow’s ambitious net-zero goals. Live music festivals and outdoor performances traditionally rely on polluting diesel generators.

The Phonoautobothy is an entirely solar-powered recording studio capable of producing high-quality recordings and powering live performances off-grid. Throughout 2024, it appeared at events such as WestFest and the Belle & Sebastian Weekender Festival and has been in regular use as a part of Beatroute’s creative activities.
